Frequently Asked Questions

Our organization has never sponsored a visa or worked with an immigration lawyer before. What's the best way to get started?

The best way to get started is to contact us and schedule a consultation. There, we can learn more about your organization and explore what visa options work best for your circumstances. We look forward to speaking with you.

It looks like your firm is based in Michigan, but our company is based out of another state or country. Can you still help us?

We absolutely can. Our attorneys are all licensed in the State of Michigan, but because immigration law is federal law, our firm can assist clients anywhere. In fact, we can assist organizations in any part of the United States or in any country abroad that are seeking to employ foreign workers in the United States. We have assisted clients in all 50 U.S. states and in over 100 foreign countries.

Our organization is considering switching immigration lawyers, but we have one or more immigration cases pending. Do we need to wait for those cases to be adjudicated before we switch?

No, if your organization is considering switching immigration lawyers, you can do so at any time. We would be happy to take over any existing cases, and we can coordinate with your current legal team to ensure a smooth transition.

Why should we consider using Sherman Immigration, PLLC? Aren't all immigration law firms basically the same?

There are a number of reasons why Sherman Immigration, PLLC stands out among the crowd of immigration law firms:

Our specialized experience: Our attorneys have more than 50 years of combined experience in immigration law, and healthcare and business immigration law is all that we do. Because of this, we have the specialized experience required to assist your organization with all of its immigration needs.

Our personalized approach: Unlike large, general-service law firms where it can take days or weeks to receive an email response or an update on a case, our firm prides itself on our personable approach and prompt responses.

Our wide range of clients: Our attorneys partner with clients of all sizes, from individual immigrants and small businesses, to regional medical centers, university systems, and nationwide retailers.

How much does it cost to sponsor an employee for a work visa?

The cost of any visa depends on the specific circumstances of the case. There are certain government filing fees that the employer is obligated to pay when applying to sponsor an employee for a work visa, while other fees can be paid by either the employer or the employee. Our attorney fee is calculated based on the complexity of the case. Generally, we prefer to use a flat-fee rather than an hourly rate for a few reasons:

  • Flat-fees take less time for us to bill, and because we spend less time on billing, we spend more time on your case. This helps us complete your case in a quicker and more cost-effective manner, and we pass this savings along to you.
  • With a flat-fee model, your organization and employees can feel free to email us with questions or issues and receive a prompt response without worrying about it increasing the cost of the application.
Does your firm offer free consultations?

Unfortunately, we do not offer free consultations at this time. The work that we do is highly specialized, and to provide the best possible service, we offer consultations for a reasonable fee. Our consultation fee is calculated based on the complexity of the consultation.

Do you offer Zoom consultations?

Yes, we offer telephone and Zoom consultations.
